External links and media: web, video, and audio
Not all relevant content is a file to upload. A reference page, a YouTube video, a podcast episode — all of these can enter the project as a link, becoming a content item like any other: it lives in a folder, and it can be tagged, moved, and commented on.
Who can: adding links is an action for the owner, admin, or member. Viewers can open them, but not create them.
Three types of link

How to add a link
- In the Content tab, navigate to the destination folder
- Use the menu next to Add file and choose the link type (web, video, or audio)
- Paste the URL and confirm
Sutram identifies the platform and fetches the metadata automatically — you don't need to fill in the title or thumbnail by hand.
Supported platforms
- Video: YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Wistia, Loom, and TikTok
- Audio: Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, among others
- Web: any valid HTTP/HTTPS URL
The platform is detected from the URL itself; thumbnails and other data are extracted when available.
Links are content items
Once added, links behave like any other item in the project:
- they live inside folders and appear in the Content listing
- they can be tagged for search and filtering
- they can be moved and renamed
- they can receive comments
This lets you treat external references with the same organization you give your files.
Adding links with AI (MCP)
An assistant connected through the Sutram MCP Server adds links by conversation — useful for registering several at once. Examples:
- "Add this YouTube video to the Training folder."
- "Save these 5 reference pages as web links in the project."

Tips
- Organize references in their own folders — a "References" or "Training" folder keeps links easy to find.
- Tag the links — like any item, they gain searchability with tags.
- Paste the canonical URL — the original page yields the best metadata (title, thumbnail).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to fill in the link's title?
A: No. Sutram automatically fetches the title, description, and thumbnail from the URL. You can adjust it later if you want.
Q: Can I organize and tag links the way I do with files?
A: Yes. Links are content items: they live in folders, accept tags, and can be moved, renamed, and commented on.
Q: My video/audio platform isn't on the list. Does it work?
A: The listed platforms have optimized detection and thumbnails. Other audio URLs can still be added; for video, prefer the supported platforms to get correct thumbnails and identification.
