Choosing the Session Type
After authentication, Sutram asks you to choose how you want to stay signed in:
- Long-lived session — Stay signed in for 14 days. Ideal for personal devices.
- Temporary session — You'll be signed out when you close the browser. Use on shared or public devices.
Setting a Password (Optional)
Sutram does not require a password — you can use Google or magic links exclusively. However, if you'd like an additional login method, you can set a password at any time:
- Go to Settings
- In the Password section, click Set password
- Choose a password (minimum of 12 characters)
- Click Save
Resetting Your Password
If you set a password and forgot it:

- Click the link and choose a new password
The reset link is valid for 24 hours.

After logging in, you can customize your profile in Settings:
Display Name
Your display name appears in project member lists, comments, and chat messages. To change it:
- Click your avatar in the top navigation bar
- Go to Settings
- Update your name and click Save
Profile Picture
Sutram uses your profile picture from several sources, in this order of priority:
- Custom upload — Upload a photo directly in Settings (max. 120 KB). This always has the highest priority.
- Google avatar — If you signed up with Google, your Google profile picture is used automatically.
- Gravatar — If you have a Gravatar linked to your email, it is used as an alternative.
If none of the options above are available, Sutram picks a random image as your avatar.
Language
Sutram is available in several languages. To change your language:
- Go to Settings
- Select your preferred language from the dropdown menu
- The interface updates immediately
Currently supported languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and Italian.

Choose between Light, Dark, or System (follows your device settings) in the Appearance section in Settings.
Email Notifications
Sutram sends emails for:
- Account confirmation — When you sign up with email (not needed for Google)
- Magic links — When you request a passwordless login
- Password reset — When you request a new password
- Project invitations — When someone invites you to a project
- Email change — When you update your email address
Security Features
Password (Optional)
If you choose to set a password:
- Minimum of 12 characters
- No maximum length restrictions
- We recommend using a unique password or a password manager
Sudo Mode
For sensitive actions, such as changing your email, Sutram may ask you to authenticate again. This is called sudo mode and ensures that someone who finds your device unattended cannot change your security settings. Sudo mode lasts 10 minutes after re-authentication.
Session Management
- Long-lived sessions are valid for 14 days
- Temporary sessions end when the browser is closed
- Each login creates an independent session
Accepting Project Invitations
If someone invites you to a project:
- Existing account: You receive an email with a link to join the project. Click the link and you'll be added automatically.
- No account yet: The invitation email includes a link to create your account. After signing up, you're added automatically to the project.
Invitations expire after 7 days. Ask the project owner to resend it if yours has expired.
